Amazing Grace

"Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn that has touched the hearts of millions of people around the world for centuries. It was written by English clergyman John Newton in 1779.

The lyrics of "Amazing Grace" describe Newton's own journey of faith, from his days as a sailor and slave trader to his eventual conversion to Christianity and ordination as a minister. In the first verse, Newton speaks of being "a wretch," lost in sin and deserving of God's wrath. But despite his many sins, he finds that he is not beyond the reach of God's grace.

The chorus of the hymn, with its famous lines "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound / That saved a wretch like me," expresses the deep gratitude and joy that Newton felt as he experienced the love and forgiveness of God. The second verse speaks of the darkness and despair that he once knew, and the third verse describes the transformative power of God's grace in his life.

"Amazing Grace Lyrics"

[Verse 1:]

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now am found

Was blind, but now I see

[Chorus:]

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now am found

Was blind, but now I see

[Verse 2:]

T'was grace that taught my heart to fear

And grace my fears relieved

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed

[Chorus:]

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now am found

Was blind, but now I see

[Verse 3:]

Through many dangers, toils and snares

I have already come

'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far

And grace will lead me home

[Chorus:]

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now am found

Was blind, but now I see
